On Tuesday, January 28th AUSA will be hosting a one day, in-person writing workshop at their Headquarters building located at 2425 Wilson Blvd., Arlington, VA. Supported by TRADOC, AUP, and The Harding Project, this exciting event is geared toward anyone who is interested in the revitalization and renewal of Army scholarship and writing.
Don’t worry if you’re new to writing—all are welcome! Just be sure to bring a copy of an outline or first draft that you are currently working on to ensure you benefit from the breakout groups. Registration is capped, so if you’re interested, don’t wait.
The event will run from 7 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. and will include practical exercises and a line-up of experts prepared to share advice for writing within the Army and DoD more largely. The mediums discussed will range from magazines to articles to books. Some speaker highlights include:
Opening remarks from GEN Gary Brito, TRADOC;
Keynote address and expertise from Joe Byerly, Founder, From the Green Notebook;
Conversation with LTG Jim Dubik, USA, Ret., AUSA Senior Fellow; and
Closing address from Dr. Heidi Urben, Georgetown, Dubik Fellowship Advisor.
The Round Robin working groups will be focused on writing, editing, and book publishing. This is why it is imperative you bring your current project! Each group will be supported by several subject matter experts including:
Dr. Trent Lythgoe, Associate Professor of Military Leadership, Command and General Staff College, and Gina Cavallero, AUSA Senior Staff Writer, ARMY;
Michelle Tan, Editor-in-Chief, ARMY, Director of Media Operations, AUSA, and Ellen Toner, Senior Editorial Manager, AUSA’s Education & Programs; and
Joe Craig, Director, AUSA’s Book Program, and Dr. Donald Wright, Deputy Director, AUP.
Once you’ve registered, look for more information in your in-box. Plan to wear business attire or your duty uniform. We also regret that there is no dial-in option, but we hope to do more online events if there is demand for them.
At the Harding Project, we are thrilled this event is taking place and hope you are able to join us. We are grateful for AUSA, TRADOC, and AUP’s support and emphasis on professional writing and the future of the Army’s scholarship program. We will see you in Arlington on the 28th!
