While its now January 2nd, we thought we’d flag the Navy’s New Year Deck Log poetry tradition.

Similar to our staff duty log, the Ship Deck Log sheet is a place for serious business, not normally poetry. However, on New Years Day, inspired officers of the deck across the Navy record their rounds in poetry. While there’s no similar tradition in the Army—though we’ve talked about the long history of war poetry and creative writing before.
